The role of HOPE in chronic pain management

Chronic pain is one of the most difficult medical conditions we can ever face in our lives. It affects any possible aspect of our personal, professional and social life. The pain and it's consequences can wrap us around so hard that we could not see the light of life and happiness anymore. This is the road to loose hope. We call it Catastrophization of chronic pain. It means that the pain has passed the line of being a warning signal for an injury or lesion and has reached the point of over shadowing all our existence. Loosing hope is the most important part of the battle that we may loose. Keeping hope is the essence of life with all it's joy and difficulties, ups and downs, comforts and PAIN.

NEVER LOSE HOPE, THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY OUT, ALTHOUGH WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO SEE IT.

  1. What is the way out of this never-ending pain? What treatment will work? Why wont my Dr prescribe anything for me except meds tnhat I can't tolerate like Tramadol, & amitryptilline. or drugs I cant afford like lyrica & cymbalta?

  2. I have had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for about 25 years. I think that your explanation of "catastrophization of pain" is an accurate insight to this situation. I have battled greatly indeed in this manor. The pain itself is treatable. I take vicodin on a regular basis. But the sense of deterioration, and the inability to accomplish anything productive, is the greater challenge for me. I have absolute responsibilities that I simply cannot continue to meet. I have been forced to a place that seems to be impossible. My faith in God is the only way I can deal with it. I find myself learning the meaning of "trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding" indeed He has become my only and true refuge.
